UPS continues to expand its operations as e-commerce continues to grow.
In Portland, Oregon, UPS is promoting employees to backup feeder driving and package car driving positions at record levels and without the need to work years in its hubs as a part-time package handler.
While backup feeder driving (Class A CDL tractor/trailer drivers) promotions have historically been reserved exclusively for package car drivers, a change in the new contract with Joint Council 37 and Local 162, now allows part-tme package handlers who posess a Class A CDL to promote directly into a backup feeder job without having to first be a package car driver.
UPS is just a month or less away from getting to this new pool of eligibile Class A CDL employees due to an extreme need in the backup feeder driving ranks.
If you have a Class A CDL and are interested in a backup feeder driving job, please contact Local 162 Business Agent Don Greene or Local 162 President Mark Davison at (503) 257-0162. We will forward your information to the UPS labor department and have them coordinate your application with their human resources department.
Part time employees accepting a back up feeder driving job maintain their part time job and status until such time as they bid and are successfully awarded a full-time feeder job.
Again, give Don Greene or Mark Davison a call at Local 162 and we can give you all of the contractual details - call (503) 257-0162!
