Local 162 was notified by the Company that the Swan Island Day sort would be closing pursuant to Article 38, Section 1 of the National Master Agreement.  This change impacts inside employees and feeder drivers.  Since that notification, we have been having discussions with the Company to gather the necessary information needed to complete this process.  The following is a summary of what we know as of February 22, 2024:

• The last Swan Island Day sort shift will be April 18, 2024.
• The Day sort volume will be moving to Swan Island Twilight, Alderwood Day and Twilight, Spokane, WA. Night and Tacoma, WA. Day sorts.
• The specific number of inside employees that will be allowed to move to these shifts is still being worked out.
• Inside employees who move to another one of these locations under this Change of Operations shall be dove-tailed to the appropriate seniority list at the new location.
• Business Agent, Ben Vedus, and Union Representative, Matt Konz, will be in the Day sort operation beginning Monday February 26^th to meet with the Company, and each individual Day sort employee, to document the employee’s preferences on where they would like to go, when following the work.
• If at the end of this process, Swan Island inside employees are to be placed on a long-term lay-off, the Master Swan Island Inside Seniority list shall be utilized in determining who are the affected employees.
• Feeder Business Agent, Bobby Rispler, will be holding a separate meeting on a date and time to be determined, to discuss the impact of this change on the Feeder Drivers.

There is a lot of speculation out there in the media, other social media groups and just simply “Water Cooler” talk on the shop floor as to what is going to happen or what should happen.  Please remember, nothing is official unless you hear it from a Local 162 Representative.
