On Monday, August 5th, Teamsters Local 162 President and Joint Council 37 President Mark Davison was invited to speak in a press conference held by Oregon Senator Ron Wyden. Senator Wyden is leading more than 25 members of Congress in filing an amicus brief urging the Federal District Court for the District of Oregon to grant the Federal Trade Commission’s request for a preliminary injunction in the Kroger-Albertson’s merger case. The brief outlines three major concerns with the merger: harm to consumers, harm to workers, and the growing consolidation of grocery chains leading to monopolistic practices.
President Davison addressed the press on the issue of grocery workers and how past mergers in the grocery industry have negatively impacted Teamsters, and why it is important that we continue to oppose the Kroger-Albertson’s merger.
“Teamsters Joint Council 37 appreciates the support of U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden for coming out so strongly against this merger,” Davison said. “The merger must be opposed at every level to protect workers and consumers. We further thank the FTC and State of Oregon for filing suit to block the merger.”
