Congratulations to Teamsters Local 162 Business Agent Ben Vedus who has been appointed by General President Sean O’Brien to serve as Chair of the Joint Council 37 Package and Sort Rider Negotiating Committee. In addition to being appointed Chair of the JC 37 Package and Sort Rider Negotiating Committee, Ben will serve on the committee for the Western Region Supplemental Agreement.
Ben was initiated into Local 162 in March 1979 when he was hired at UPS as a part-time hub employee while attending Portland State University. In 1980 Ben was appointed to be a Shop Steward and served in this critical role for nearly 27 years, both as a part-time employee and later when he went full-time as a result of the historic 1997 strike at UPS. As a Business Agent, Ben represents Local 162 UPS members at the Swan Island Hub and UPS Cartage services.
Ben will bring his invaluable years of experience of being a UPS rank-and-file member and a current UPS Business Agent in his role as Chair of this committee as the Teamsters take on the fight for the best contract for our members!
